In reply to JolandaT. She's not bad actually. Yes, she is based on the books of the same name by Veronica Roth. I've read the books, they are fantastic, but I am a little biased, as that's the genre I read and write.

I thought Kate Winslet was a very good ‘evil woman’ in the otherwise unconvincing film ‘Divergent’, which apparently is a based on a series of books. Winslet’s character comes across as a very elegant and considerate person, but you can feel the edge. In the end, it becomes clear she is a tough and determined lady who doesn’t mind people die as long as her goal is reached.

Hi William, I’m just preparing to release my writing craft book all about villains, but it is most definitely not PG 13!!

That is a good question, there are so few good female villains, and fewer still that are PG rated. Cruelly deVille is a classic, I like her because she’s not ‘boy’ obsessed. But often she’s portrayed as nuts. So depends on which version you watch.

What about Fester’s wife from the Adams family?

Or my personal favourite, although I am cheating because she is actually an anti-hero not a villain, but Maleficent (Angelina Jolie’s recent portrayal was awesome). I will continue to ponder on this because none of those are from books particularly
