I love how you write your posts... I'm going to have a crack at it again this year and planning has begun. I want to see if I can do it in style this time and not bumble about like a drunk lol

Nano is definitely about creating the habit for me too. I did it and won the first time and it was what I needed. I tend to participate every year but never with the 50k goal.

Too late: I stumbled into NaNo two years ago, with no preparation except an idea for a story, a definition of my main characters, and boundless enthusiasm. I knew how to put words together on a page, but I did not know that writing a novel was a craft of which I new nothing: zilch: nada. Almost two years and a lot of learning later, and a much-honed version of the first draft that I hurled onto the page in 23 hectic days is now on Kindle for the whole world to enjoy. NaNo was fun. I enjoyed every day of it, and it changed my life.
I doubt I'll ever tackle the NaNo challenge again - I spend most of my days writing now - so I no longer need a "spur to prick the sides of my intent."
