In answer to your question of the week, I go climbing (okay, indoor bouldering because it’s warmer!) Along with being physical exercise in a friendly atmosphere, I’ve recently realised that it also helps my mental health. In so much of my life, what happens is dependent in part on the actions I take and in part on things I have no control over (this seems particularly true in marketing my books). But with climbing, it’s all down to me. If I don’t reach the top of a particular route or problem, I can’t blame algorithm changes or the strange whims of potential customers. This pushes me to keep trying, and when I finally reach the top this is purely through my own efforts (admittedly with encouragement and advice from others). In climbing, I have control over my own success.
tl:dr Climbing helps keep me sane.
